I have been inundated with emails, texts and calls from people across the country today, but in particular members of Luton's Muslim community who have expressed their disgust at the attack on Baroness Warsi last night.
I received a very polite email and press release from the spokesperson of the Luton Council of mosques, Dr Fiaz Hussain, this morning in which he states: "The Muslim community totally disassociates itself from this shameful and appalling act." For a copy of the letter please click here.
Many other members of the Muslim community in Luton have spoken out against the attack. See bbc clip, here.
I am very proud of local residents for uniting in this way. These quick actions - in particular by the local Muslim community - clearly demonstrate that their main goal is cohesion, not the division articulated by a small handfull of extremists last night. Thank you Luton.
