East of Luton Consultation
Thursday, January 28, 2010

I joined dozens of local residents, planning officials, councillors and Peter Lilley MP recently at a meeting to discuss the latest plans by Bloor Homes to build 1,000 homes to the East of Luton.

Bloor Homes have revised down their plans form the 3,000 plus homes they had originally intended to build.

Conservatives from across Luton and Hertfordshire are working together to stop the building on green belt land and are urging Hertfordshire Council to reject these plans.  The plans are subject to a consultation that will last until early February and we encourage all local residents to express their opinion.

Sample letters outlining reasons for objecting to these plans can be found by clicking here or by accessing the Keep East of Luton Green (KEOLG) campaign site along with information on other upcoming public meetings in Hertfordshire and in Luton.

Nigel Huddleston has committed to continuing the fight to stop plans to build on green belt land while acres of brownfield land in Luton sit empty crying out for redevelopment, and while thousands of houses across Luton sit empty.  He is running a campaign making Conservative party pledges on housing clear.  If  Labour win next year, you can kiss goodbye, to your greenbelt; whereas a Conservative government will scrap the regional development plans and housing targets that have led to these unwanted developments being push forwards, and return decision making on housing back to local communities.  Meanwhile we will provide financial incentives for housebuilding (including social housing) where communities DO want development.
