Lutonline - taking the Mickey?
Wednesday, February 10, 2010

I'm really not sure whether to be amused or angry at an advert in the Borough Council’s newspaper ‘Lutonline’ this month (paid for out of your taxes).

On page 18 there is a smiling picture of Margaret Moran MP, with a statement saying: “Luton’s two MPs hold regular advice surgeries and are always happy to help their constituents.”  A somewhat bold statement given that, as far as I am aware, Ms Moran has done diddly-squat for her constituents recently and has not even stepped foot in Luton since last May.

The advert also says:  “Please call Margaret’s office on 731 882 for an advice surgery appointment”.  Well – having quite a few things I would like to say to Ms Moran I of course jumped at the chance and called the number and got... an answer-phone message!  If any reader of this site has managed to get a slot at one of these mythical ‘surgeries’, please do let me know.

If Lutonline is going to contain any comment on Ms. Moran in the future, I hope it is a full page spread with a headline of “I’m Sorry”.   This month’s Lutonline yet again showed that far from being an informative, apolitical communications vehicle it is being used instead as a Labour party promotion tool.  It contains no less than 8 pictures of local Labour party politicians and not a single one of members of other political persuasions.

I don’t mind receiving my opponent’s party political propaganda, but I do object to paying for it!
