Britain's youngest MP, Chloe Smith, visits Luton
Friday, February 12, 2010

Britain's youngest MP, Chloe Smith - who won Norwich North for the Conservatives in a spectacular by-election last year - visited Luton on Thursday.

In a jam packed schedule she visited Caddington village school, visited a local pub, viewed the green belt north of Luton, had a tour of the Luton Centre for Carnival Arts, and then met local residents at the Stopsely Conservative club.

I joined Chloe at Caddington village shcool where we had a tour of the school's impressive facilities and were then quizzed by a group of children aged 5 to 13 on a range of issues including jobs, education policy,  MP's pay, the war in Afghanistan, and environmental issues.  I was struck by the maturity of the children we met, and with their enthusiasm for learning.  The teachers and staff have done amazing things in creating a very impressive learning and social environment.  Chloe said "I was really impressed by both the staff and the pupils at Caddington Village School.  The children were remarkably polite and well-behaved and their questions showed true concern and insight into the world around them."

At the Carnival Centre, Director Paul Anderson gave Chloe, Jeremy Brier and I a tour of the state of the art facilities including a very impressive studio/ performace art area, and Chloe even tried on a carnvial costume.

At the Stopsley Conservative club, Chloe met local supporters and residents before heading back to her constituency in Norwich and a well earned rest after a very busy day.
