As many constituents may now be aware, Highways England is currently carrying out some improvement works on the A46 carriageway. As part of the works, Highways England are making improvements to road markings and signs, replacing the anti-skid surfacing on the roundabout approaches and installing a new Toucan crossing.
The works began on Monday 12th March and are due to end on Saturday 28th April. The works are being carried out overnight so there will be no daytime traffic management restrictions but the A46 carriageway will be closed in both directions between the hours of 8pm-6am Monday to Friday. The carriageway will be kept open as usual during the day.
I recently met with Highways England and know they are aware of how works such as these can impact on local residents. I am pleased that in an effort to minimise disruption, two improvement schemes have been incorporated into one and the traffic management restrictions will be removed over the bank holiday period so that residents’ journeys over Easter weekend won’t be disrupted.
I understand that Highways England wrote to local businesses and residents who are located near the site of the works and the diversion routes are fully signed. Highways England is planning to return for two weeks in May 2018 to complete testing of the new traffic lights and will be in touch with local businesses and residents once this has been scheduled.
