I was delighted to appear on the West Midlands edition of Sunday Politics this weekend. I was joined at the filming by Jess Phillips, MP for Birmingham Yardley, and John Campion, the Police & Crime Commissioner for West Mercia. We discussed a range of topics including education funding, wearing ties in the Commons! and John Campion’s proposal to create a joint commissioner with responsibility for running the local fire services.
On Friday, as well as holding a surgery I visited Long Lartin Prison and had a productive meeting with its Governor, Clare Pearson, about the issues facing the prison and correspondence I had received from constituents.
I spent some of Saturday afternoon at Lido Park for the first ever Droitwich Spa Youth Festival. Katie and the organisers did a fantastic job organising live music, outdoor activities and food and drink and I hope that this will now become an annual event. Saturday was a busy day for festivals in Worcestershire with the Evesham River Festival also taking place – which ended with illuminated boats and fireworks! I also visited the confetti fields at Wick. They’re only open to the public for about a week each year and the spectacular fields are well worth a visit – but you will now have to wait until next year to see them again.
