The Assisted Dying Bill

The Assisted Dying Bill was debated again in Parliament today.

I was in the chamber and listened to many powerful and heartfelt speeches on this deeply sensitive issue.

I previously voted against the bill at second reading - and remain inclined to do so at third reading because I have many concerns about it as I have outlined previously - particularly relating to safeguarding. But I believe it's important to engage constructively as the bill progresses through parliament. That’s why I’ve been reviewing and voting on a range of amendments aimed at strengthening safeguards and improving the bill.

Even if I continue to oppose the bill overall, I want to ensure it is as robust as possible, because it may well become law.

🗣️ I welcome further comments from constituents and look forward to hearing your views.
