I really enjoyed my visit to the Broadway Caravan Club site. Nick Lomas and Colin and Jean Elliott gave me a tour of the site and introduced me to several Caravan Club members who were all very happy with the Broadway site and positive about the Caravan Club in general. I was particularly struck by the pivotal role the site plays in contributing to the local economy. Everyone I spoke to had spent time in the village spending money in local shops, pubs, and restaurants - and all had visited a local tourist or heritage site during their stay. I can easily see how a sites like the one in Broadway can contribute several million pounds to the local economy each year and help sustain many businesses and jobs. It was particularly pleasing to see so many grandparents spending time with their grandchildren, too, highlighting the fact that the Caravan Club crosses generations. In my maiden speech in the House of Commons I said that one of my areas of focus in parliament would be travel and tourism and I will do everything I can to champion the UKs tourism industry and support the Caravan Club in enabling hundreds of thousands of people each year to enjoy their leisure time with friends and family in sites in enviable locations right across Great Britain.
