It was a real pleasure to join the Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Beatrice Grant, the Mayor of Droitwich, Cllr Chris Bowden, and local volunteers for the opening of the new Droitwich Community Pantry and Fridge on Berry Hill Industrial Estate.
The move to larger premises marks an exciting new chapter for the charity, which continues to tackle food waste and support families across Worcestershire. Founded by Ashlea and Sarah Stone and run entirely by volunteers, the Pantry redistributes around five tonnes of surplus food every week across the Midlands and delivers more than 140 food parcels to households in need. Families can access food for just £5 per shop, or free of charge for those who are vulnerable or struggling.
The relocation was made possible through a £19,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund, enabling the charity to expand its operations, improve facilities, and increase capacity to support even more people. The Pantry also works closely with partners including Mindful Chef and Oakland International, who provide surplus stock and logistical support to keep the service running.
The opening event brought together volunteers, local supporters, and community leaders to celebrate the success of an organisation that embodies the best of Droitwich’s community spirit. The new site will allow the Pantry to help more families, reduce food waste, and continue building partnerships across Worcestershire.
