I was pleased to join Peter Bedford MP for a visit to the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire.
The Great Central Railway is a real asset to the region. It is the UK’s only double-track, main line heritage railway, preserving an important part of Britain’s railway history while supporting tourism and volunteering.
It was fantastic to meet the team, get out on the railway and hear more about their ambitious Reunification plans, which aim to reconnect the Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire sections of the former line and create an 18-mile heritage railway.
Projects like this are a reminder of the huge value heritage railways bring to local communities, local economies and future generations.
