Last Friday I was invited to visit St Lawrence's Church in Evesham and was given a briefing on the work of the Churches Conservation Trust. Representatives outlined to me all that the Trust do to ensure that redundant churches of architectural importance stay open. St Lawrence's is a very good example of a regularly visited redundant church and it is vital that these churches continue to be accessible to the general public. They rely on the commitment of local volunteers such as representatives of Evesham Civic Society who I met there, and other local people.
Colin Shearer, Director of Churches Conservation Trust and Patrick Joel, the Volunteering officer, together with Reverend Andrew Spurr and local volunteers gave me a tour around this beautiful and historic site which I hope can be preserved for many generations to enjoy in Evesham.
