After seven years on the frontbench, in both Government and Opposition, I will be returning to the backbenches.
It has been an enormous privilege to serve in a number of roles during that time, most recently as Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, alongside a hugely talented team.
The DCMS brief has been a particularly special one for me. I worked in these sectors before entering parliament. Our arts, culture, creative industries, sport, broadcasting, tourism, heritage and charity sectors make an enormous contribution not only to our economy, but to our national life, our communities and Britain’s place in the world.
I have been incredibly proud to champion them and to meet so many remarkable people working across the sectors. I am hugely grateful to my team, and everyone who has worked with me, shared their expertise, and supported me during my time in this role.
I would also like to wish Rebecca Paul MP every success as she takes on the brief. I know she will bring great energy and commitment to the role, and I look forward to supporting both Rebecca and the wider team however I can.
While I may be leaving the frontbench, I will continue to be a huge advocate for DCMS sectors and will keep making the case for them to receive the support and recognition they rightfully deserve.
Serving on the frontbench for the past seven years has been a tremendous honour. Under Kemi Badenoch’s leadership, I know that the Conservatives have what it takes to win the next general election with a clear, credible manifesto that can deliver a better future for Britain.
Above all, I will continue working as hard as ever for the people of Droitwich and Evesham.
