It was a pleasure to visit Ombersley Cricket Club recently and to spend time with the many volunteers who are working hard to support and improve this fantastic local club.
I was particularly pleased to get involved myself, helping with painting work on the clubhouse alongside volunteers from across the community. It was great to see such a strong turnout, with people of all ages giving up their time to support the club.
Ombersley Cricket Club plays an important role in our area, competing at a high level locally while also doing an excellent job of developing young talent. The club has a strong track record of nurturing players and encouraging participation, including helping to produce players who have gone on to represent England.
Clubs like this are vital for the future of grassroots sport. They help bring communities together, promote healthy lifestyles and ensure that young people have opportunities to get involved in sport locally.
