I had the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. as part of a parliamentary delegation, alongside colleagues from both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. During the visit, we met with members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate to discuss the issues that unite us as two great nations with shared values and global responsibilities.
Our discussions covered a wide range of topics, including trade, security, support for Ukraine, our approach to China, and the fast-moving developments in artificial intelligence, both the opportunities it brings and the challenges it poses.
With the United States preparing to mark its 250th anniversary next year, it’s a timely moment to reflect on the deep ties between our two countries. From my conversations during the visit, it’s clear that the special relationship between the UK and the US remains strong, and essential.
