I visited De Montfort School last Friday to see the work of the school's robotics team and suffice to say, I was very impressed!
The two teams were tasked with designing robots that could compete in a game which involved lifting items and hurling or depositing them into an opposition half. The team with the least items in their half at the end of the game was then declared the winner.
The complexity and effectiveness of the machines that were built by young people aged just 16 and 17 was truly remarkable, and a huge credit to the staff who have supported the team: Julie Howell, Aaron Williams and Pip Hayward.
Peter, Lewis, Charlie, Chris and Jack form on of just 8 teams out of 450 that have been selected to compete at the World Championships in Kentucky last year, an achievement that represents the culmination of three years of dedication and hard work. Unfortunately, they are still someway short of funding the trip. Anyone who would like to invest in the future of scientific innovation in Worcestershire can donate towards the costs here: https://www.gofundme.com/tdms-robotics-world-championship
Well done to all the staff and students involved in this impressive work and best of luck in getting to Kentucky and competing in the World Championships!
