Global Fund

August 2016

While there have been huge advances in tackling many major diseases such as malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS, there are still millions dying from them each year. A world free of the epidemics of malaria and TB is in all our interests, and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria plays an important part in this struggle. Since 2002, the Global Fund has helped reduce deaths from the big three diseases by 40 per cent.

I understand that the investment case for the Global Fund projects that a successful replenishment will help the Global Fund to save 8 million lives and avert up to 300 million new infections between 2017 and 2019. The UK is planning to support a successful Fifth Replenishment of a strong, value for money Global Fund and a decision on the size of our investment will be made later in the summer. I will follow the outcome of the Global Fund’s replenishment conference closely.
