Statement on the Prime Minister's Resignation

I thank Liz Truss for her dedicated service as Prime Minister and in several other senior government roles over many years.

We are fortunate to have many high calibre potential candidates to succeed her as party leader and Prime Minister.

As a Government Whip I must remain impartial in the leadership debate and can not declare support for any candidate.

But I still have a vote and am taking soundings - and have already received a wide range of views and opinions from party members and constituents.

I was delighted to return to St Andrews CofE school and nursery on Friday to see first-hand their fantastic new nursery building.

Congratulations to all involved, this new facility will be a great asset for the school and wider community for years to come!
